I think he also beat up Ron to scare him from being an undercover to stop him from following in his footsteps but to also see if he was strong enough for the job. I do find it weird that these triads don't do a background search or something because being an undercover isn't too uncommon. It should be pretty easy to see if they've been a cop before, and that would automatically make the triads not trust them right? I'm still loving the series though and I can't wait to see what happens!
