Divas in Distress

Striving for temporary superiority over one another, retired TV actresses SHEUNG YING-HUNG (Liza Wang) and MIU SING-HO (Gigi Wong) have had ruptures in their relationship as fellow students for thirty years. They basically would not have contacted each other should their master – FUNG HANG-MAN (Chung King Fai) not got in between them from time to time. Ironically SING-HO’s son – CHONG KA-LONG (Chin Ka Lok) married YING-HUNG’s daughter, who risked her life to have a baby then died giving birth, leaving YING-HUNG grief-stricken. Fate has it that KA-LONG encounters HEUNG NAI-HING (Eliza Sam), who is a TV reporter from a wealthy family. While SING-HO advocates KA-LONG to remarry, YING-HUNG deliberately sabotages it. On the other hand, YING-HUNG devotes all her attention to cultivate her son, CHAK YAU-SING (Him Law). To her surprise, he falls in love with SING-HO’s niece KWAI YEE-HEI (Mandy Wong), a construction worker. Not wanting her son to follow in her daughter’s footsteps, YING-HUNG is resolved to create difficulties for them. Ongoing hatred towards each other is fuelling the conflicts between YING-HUNG and SING-HO, enmeshing their children in an awkward predicament. How they wish their mothers would not continue like that!

I have to say – I am absolutely loving this drama right now, and it completely took me by surprise. I scour TVB’s website everyday so I can read the episode recap.

I didn’t know who Him Law was until Tiger Cubs (don’t really care for his personal life scandals but the other hand, that’s a separate issue from his acting ability) and I adore his onscreen chemistry with Mandy Wong. I’m also pleasantly surprised by the fact that I really enjoy watching Chin Ga Lok’s storyline and while Eliza Sam overacts like nobody’s business, she is also a hoot to watch.

Looking forward to weekdays now because of this show! 🙂

      Hi Tammy
That sounds like very positive feedback!! I have yet to watch the series though (and still deciding whether to give this a shot)- I’m also considering watching Ghetto Justice2 and King Maker, so tossing up which ones to watch.

Haha Mandy and Him have been in quite a few series together!

I watched the first few episodes of King Maker, and it seems pretty good. A bit hard to get through though, because of all the hardship that Wayne’s character goes through, along with Pierre Ngo’s. I do wish that TVB made more ancient series though; those were my favorite when I was younger! 🙂

My love story between Him and Mandy is struggling right now. 🙁

I love visiting your site every now and then, and reading your reviews! I feel like there aren’t that many sites left devoted to TVB anymore (although I personally watch more Taiwanese and Korean series too now), and it’s great (and very admirable) that you’re still able to update every so often. Thanks much!

I heard a lot of good feedbacks of King Makers from the fans. I heard the love story of Him and Mandy was good in Divas. Too bad I skipped those 2 series. Haha just lagging on tvb nowadays. I also miss those old ancient series.

Yeah it’s hard to find an updated blog about tvb series nowadays but I noticed there are some new blogs coming up. Yeah KTVB, hyn5, and tvb a way of thinking blog has been here for a pretty long time. Knew this blog since 2007 when I watch Heart of Greed but that’s when I first was in the online tvb community too.

  • Garry Tee says:

    Diva in Distress users music

    – Phil Collins Separate Lives use is totally inappropriate .
    Anyone checked the lyrics?

Plus the music used totally irrelevant .

” if u don’t know me by now ” cOver is a horrid version

Please when choose music to elevate a scene much like many US tv shows is doing ( grey anatomy ) please choose music that actually add to scenes .

I find the love story between Him and Mandy very similar to Korean Love stories, Rich guy, poor girl… rich guy treats poor girl rough, rich guy very mean to poor girl but from time to time show’s his love to the girl…

overall it’s not the best series of the year, it’s not the worst… watchable but don’t expect too much.
