Official Synopsis

During the Northern Song Dynasty, Phecda Bureau led by FUNG NAM-TIN (Lau Kong) along with his elite group is in charge of all the mysterious criminal cases nationwide.  Its power is superior to all the other government offices, and even surpasses the Six Ministries. Commander CHU CHEUNG-SING (Kenneth Ma) is brave and intelligent, and is greatly valued by his mentor NAM-TIN.  However, due to a robbery case, he and his mentor have a disagreement and split up,  going their separate ways.  Bringing along his wife TAO FA (Selena Li), CHEUNG-SING has vanished from sight for almost ten years until recently when the case draws to a close.  As NAM-TIN is in his advanced age, Field Officer MA CHUEN-KUNG (Power Chan), NGAU TAI-LIK (Pierre Ngo) and YEUNG MAU (Lin Xia Wei) are under orders to summon CHEUNG-SING back.  Although the four of them jointly solve cold cases one by one, their distinctive personalities often lead to conflicts among them. Unexpectedly, TAO FA and CHEUNG-SING diverge from each other as a result of a misunderstanding.  After that, CHEUNG-SING encounters a famous prostitute YAN MEI-LEUNG (Selena Li), who bears the same resemblance to his wife and takes CHEUNG-SING’s breath away.  In the meantime, the Jin Dynasty has long been coveting the Song land, and is ready to launch an invasion.  CHEUNG-SING notices that the Jin spies have penetrated into the Bureau, whereas his best friend, gangster HUNG SAP-KAU (Raymond Cho), has also been taken advantage of. With those surrounding him being in danger one after another, it’s difficult to define friends or foes, rendering everyone on tenterhooks……

I actually quite like it so far, I love Kenneth and Selena together! Though not refreshing at all lol

    • KTVB says:

lol…I like Kenneth and Selena a a pairing too..but when I saw that they were paired up yet again another TVB series…I kinda don’t wanna watch it for that reason- not refreshing at all.. XD

I’m not planning to watch this series, but may go back to this if I have time and if I hear positive stuff about the series 🙂 Let me know how it goes

  • karened says:

I cannot connect with the plot and the characters’ lines are awkward with modern lingo infused into them. None of the characters managed to keep me interested in the 4 episodes I’ve watched so I don’t think I’m gonna continue watching this one…

  • Reed says:

Always thankful to you and others for providing info for various series so we don’t end up wasting so much time on mediocre stuff. 🙂

p.s. Have been reading your writing for a while, but don’t always leave comments.

    • KTVB says:

Thanks for leaving your comments Reed 🙂 I don’t always watch every series so I can only comment on what I have been watching. Hopefully the synopsis gives you some kinda indication if it’s your type of series.

  • Re says:

Sorry but i would like to disagree. I feel the drama is better than the more recent ones, and would say that it is definitely more interesting than the ultimate addiction to say the least. Sure the pairing of Kenneth and Selena isn’t refreshing, but they connect really well in the drama and the supporting actors/actresses are great (Pierre, Raymond Cho, Power). Candy and Xiawei are quite good too. As opposed to casts from other shows (bosco’s younger sister in TUA, and lisa lau in BHWS), the actors here have more potential. I think its worth it to give it a chance!

  • Kuks says:

I must disagree with the above sentiments too, the series is actually quite watchable and definitely one of the better ones released so far this year. It is a comedy despite seriousness of the poster and the tone of the synopsis. I also find the synopsis somewhat misleading and spoilerish…

So basically a comedic cop series based in ancient China with some chop chop and a little political intrigue (so far).

I haven’t watched Kenneth and Selena together in a drama before so I thought it was ‘fresh’ to me 🙂 Def a great pairing. As Re said, the supporting cast are good, so no annoying scenes and cringing. I was surprised Candy was watchable considering her performance in On Call…

So, I guess it depends on whether you like the light-hearted silly stuff.

Btw, long time ghost reader, first time commenter 🙂
Also from Sydney and I’m glad Moses isn’t coming again~ but was utterly disappointed at the carnival at Burwood Park last year…

  • MM says:

definitely one of the better tvb drama this year. but to me, the most watchable performance in the drama was actually power chan’s. really enjoyed seeing him.

    • KTVB says:

I haven’t been watching this series, but based on the synopsis, Selena’s character is a bit like Kate’s in Relic (with the twin thing?)

      • Magic says:

Yeah, Selena’s characters are sort of like Kate’s. Her performance in here as Tou Fa and Mei Leung are really well done. I’m really enjoying this series! 🙂

  • chichi says:

i love the theme song soo much but unfortunately i can’t understand it!
can someone kindly translate it for me please?

  • chichi says:

I agree with everyone else! this is the first new tvb drama that I haven’t found dragged out! its funny but not forceful!
