[Beyond the Realm of Conscience] Episode 27 is quite an exciting one! There is a great focus on Michelle and Susanna which was actually very pleasant to watch! Let’s jump straight into the synopsis, shall we? :)

Vin successfully beats Susanna up, leaving her in tears and pain… She smiled for a second, thinking he came to save her but was shocked to find it was the opposite! Her heart is completely broken knowing her own son put in the effort and money just to hit her :( I secretly hoped lightning would suddenly strike, but I guess that would be too superstitious XD What a nasty scene, and Vin was really stupid!! Arghhh… Poor Susanna :’( I pity her so much. (On a random note, I actually got spoiled this scene once during dinner….I was like, “What?! Susanna has a kid? Ram is dead??” Yeah..poor me, I got spoiled THAT much by accident….  It was obvious from what she said that Vin was her child. I wonder why he didn’t catch on? XD Oh wells, the audience is just that much smarter!)

Vin beats up Susanna without hesitation

Michelle expected Susanna to not do any of her work, but she proves her wrong by performing above and beyond. Michelle is surprised seeing Susanna work so diligently which reminds her what a reliable person she is. When questioned her motive for working so hard (even in pain), she explains she simply wants to help her out.  She has always wanted the best for her but because of Ram’s passing, she has doubted and misunderstood her. Michelle becomes confused, by what she sees and how she thinks of her. Has she perhaps really misunderstood something? Mary has been impressed with the House of Proceedings yearly results since Michelle became the Head- but Michelle knew it wouldn’t have been possible without Susanna’s help.

Michelle soon learns from Vin that he had bashed Susanna and threw back the shoes at her. Michelle is surprised by the extent of his treatment! As doubts start flowing into her mind, we start seeing signs of guilt. Alone in Ram’s room, Michelle reflects back on what Susanna had said to her- how she didn’t see Ram at first, but then admits she did see him. Which is the truth and which is a lie? “Ram, please tell me if she really is the murderer or not” she whispers to herself. Suddenly an old creepy voice calls out to her O__O HOW SCARY!! lol This was so creepy and comical at the same time (not sure if it was intentional XD) Did anyone else get sudden chills? haha! It was quite amusing.

In [Beyond the Realm of Conscience] episode 26, Charmaine finally confronts Tavia for her evil-doing and scheme! In this blog entry, I will be mainly focusing on their scenes and sharing my thoughts on the matter :)

Upon discovering the unburnt paper, Charmaine asks Selena whether or not her mother really used a voodoo to harm Tavia’s baby. Selena admits she doesn’t know for sure and can only trust that her mother is saying the truth. However, what she does know is that the voodoo she was aware of was in fact destroyed- she burnt it personally. As to why a second one came up is still a mystery. This raises Charmaine’s alarm… it was all a scheme?

Charmaine asks Selena about the voodoo

Charmaine asks Selena about Yi Kei and the Voodoo

The next morning, Charmaine confronts Tavia about her baby’s death date, revealing the unburnt paper she had found. She managed to put all the pieces together to make up the full picture (with 100% accuracy XD), knowing she was used as part of her evil scheme. Tavia angrily snaps back, claiming she didn’t do anything wrong, which prompts Charmaine to tell Mary the situation. Tavia becomes extremely desperate and begs Charmaine not to tell Mary, playing with her emotions and making her feel guilty for being ’so cruel’ to her. Charmaine stays unmoved and just when she starts walking off, Tavia spits out blood! She has been in-taking too much medicine in order to hurry her health back to a state where she can conceive again. In order to survive in the Palace, she has to constantly aspire or she’ll easily become nothing. She claims everything she did was to protect herself. She brings up the past, saying she knows what it feels like to do good things- she used to be a good person herself. (Is she admitting she’s a bad person? o_o) The difference is, she’s only good to Charmaine, while Charmaine is good to everyone. Does this make Tavia a bad person? She stays firm she didn’t do anything wrong and Charmaine takes off once again..

Whose logic/argument do you believe in? Is Charmaine being naive in thinking one should not scheme or plot, no matter the circumstance? Or do you believe her thinking is right, and Tavia has taken it too far? I personally think Tavia’s argument is much more convincing, and Charmaine is being too unrealistic, especially in a place where it’s always the survival of the fittest. However, if Tavia really thought that- it would be okay, but it seems she does harm others with intent, and often without reason :(

This scene reminds me an awful lot like in episode 7 where  Charmaine confronts Tavia for calculating against June.

Charmaine busts Tavia’s evil scheme and plans to report

As Charmaine is walking to see Mary, flashbacks of both the good and bad times reappear. This was one very emotional scene! I started crying, it was so heart-breaking being reminded by how good Tavia used to be and the things she did for Charmaine :{ I’m missing the old days! If you were in Charmaine’s shoes, what would you do? Would you dob in your best friend?

Ah, finally a good episode to watch where I don’t have to cringe every few seconds seeing Tavia and Michelle! In episode 25 of [Beyond the Realm of Conscience], the story focuses more on Charmaine and Kevin, something we haven’t seen for quite a while! I must say it felt interesting and refreshing :) Be prepared for some tears though as there are some really emotional and touching scenes! *sniff*

After much power-play between Moses and Kwok Lun, Kevin’s father is finally release from the prison cell. It was a very happy moment for them and Charmaine and her father visit to congratulate him. The fathers teased the lovebirds, asking when the two will be getting married and starting a family. They decide to celebrate and catchup with drinks and snacks the next evening. Charmaine will be cooking up some food and her father will be preparing some quality tea. It would be a good chance for their fathers to play the new chess set, too. It was such a delight to see them so happy and optimistic!

Kevin, Charmaine and their fathers

Kevin, Charmaine and their fathers having a good time (lol, Kevin’s grin looks sus! Dirty thoughts? XD)

The evening came when Charmaine, accompanied by Kevin was heading over with some food. From afar, they see the old men by the chess table asleep. However, upon having a closer look, they have both been poisoned!! Charmaine’s father had died and Kevin’s father was in a serious critical condition; he only had a few hours left to live.

Kevin’s father lays fragile on his bed, with tears dripping from his eyes for not seeing his last wish fulfilled; which was for Kevin to get married and have kids. So sad!! :( :( Charmaine suggests to Kevin for the two to get married immediately. Kevin initially refuses, but she insists that it’s not acted on impulse nor an  irrational move. She never got the chance to even hear what her father’s wish was. Now that Kevin has the chance, the least he can do is to let his father leave without regrets.  Moses overhears the conversation and despite it being a taboo, he graciously gives them his full support.

While his dad is half dying, the two proceed with the wedding ceremony they quickly put together. awww…it was so so sad..yet sweet at the same time ;’(  When Charmaine offers tea to her father-in-law, he says his last few words and passes away.. he never got the chance to drink the tea :( I loved this whole scene- I thought it was really beautiful and Charmaine and Kevin shared some much needed chemistry. Anyone agree?

*Contains Spoilers*

I just completed this series so I thought I’d jot down some of my thoughts. (before I finish off my BR ones- sorry for the delay!) What made me watch this series was actually the official synopsis since the idea seemed kind of interesting (despite not liking the cast that much) . Hence, I decided to give it a go!

TVB The Beauty of the Game

The series revolves around the entertainment industry which particularly caught my attention. Adding to that, Kate in the series was going to enter via a beauty pageant (a bit like herself I suppose? lol) It shows the life being an artist and a lot of ”behind the scene’” stuff- incorporating many acting scenes and NGs, directors, scene set up, scripting, stunts, about the “dogs” who go around capturing “news”, people creating their own “news” to grab attention,  freezing artists, TV ratings, contracts to sponsoring artists and being various ambassadors etc . The impression I’m getting is that all the actresses, esp those more powerful and popular ones are ‘bitches” XD and always putting on that arrogant attitude- picking on the newbies. The characters in the series are pretty open when they bitch about each other- isn’t that kinda dangerous? It doesn’t look they they even bother hiding it in the studio.

In episode 24 of [Beyond the Realm of Conscience], Michelle and Tavia continue to annoy the heck out of me (Michelle more-so than Tavia)! Their purely bitchy behavior, illogical and senseless minds drive me crazy XD!! Does everyone agree that Michelle is possibly the most irritatingly ’stupid’ and illogical in the drama?

Does everyone agree that Michelle is possibly the most irritatingly 'stupid' and illogical in the drama?
I felt like slapping her silly for her childish behavior and her so-called ‘justification’. None of her self-pitying scenes touch me, and I just wish she can go die somewhere >_< *takes a deep breath* I shall now go onto the episode synopsis..

Susanna nervously stands by the pond at night, praying her son is alive and safe somewhere. Michelle had previously said if there is no moon on the night of the 15th (which is unlikely), she will tell her of her son’s whereabouts. Just as Michelle is laughing in Susanna’s face under the full moon, a dark cloud roams through the night sky, sheltering the moonlight. Despite this miracle, Michelle doesn’t keep her promise and continues to toy with her. “If I’m in a good mood, maybe I’ll tell you” Oh shame on you Michelle…

Michelle doesn't keep her promise

Michelle doesn’t keep her promise

At the House of Proceedings Council, when reviewing ideas for an upcoming event, as predicted, Michelle continues to bully Susanna. This time however, Susanna is prepared and stands up for herself and her ideas. She challenges Michelle’s poor judgment by showing her how well-thought out and meaningful her concept is; along with the solid research she has done to back her up. Michelle continues to argue, throwing whatever lame excuse she can to have her way. In order to reach a compromise, Susanna suggests Mary to make the final verdict. However, Mary has already approved of her idea before this meeting even began so Michelle is left speechless! haha! Yay, go Susanna :D !

When the two are alone, Michelle starts whining like a 5 year old for talking back at her, making her lose face in front of everyone. Well duh, does she really think she’s going to sit there and let you run all over her because you told her to? Get real! Susanna is tired of Michelle’s games, and will no longer care about learning the truth from her because she won’t say anything anyway. HAH! Sucked in. That’s what happens when you’re a liar and don’t keep your words. When Michelle brings up Ram’s death again, Susanna reiterates that she can go ahead and report it if she has any evidence. If she can bring Michelle up, she has the potential to pull her back down too. AWESOME! I really admire Susanna’s strong character and values. This scene made me feel very happy for her. Finally to fight back!

Susanna and Michelle

Susanna will no longer be pushed around by Michelle

This is followed by a scene where annoying Michelle is pitying herself. She realises she doesn’t have anything left to really use against Susanna now that she doesn’t care. She is sad she still hasn’t found any evidence pointing at Susanna for being the murderer- I’m so sick of her! Isn’t this saying something? If she can’t find evidence then stop the stupid assumptions. She doesn’t use her head and is always going with her (wrong) gut instincts. Does anyone still feel sorry for her?

Oh dear… What to say about Tavia. I’m in disbelief, haha! How can anyone like a character who is hateful and constantly bitter? We never see her happy anymore because of other people’s happiness. She likes seeing the misfortune of others (including Charmaine), and doesn’t hesitate to do whatever it takes to manipulate them. She’s power hungry and selfish. Tavia seems to have jumped from being evil with an excuse (even if it’s lame), to being evil without any justification. Still, watching Tavia play out this evilness is quite amusing to say the least. Guess I’ll just keep watching to see how it all turns out. There is definitely no going back for her!

Ready for Episode 23 synopsis? ;)

Since being confined by Mary, Selena has enjoyed a bit of peace and quiet on her own. To pass time, she has been voluntarily copying Buddhist sūtre, which has given her a new perspective in life.  She is now a wholeheartedly good person who unconditionally wishes Moses happiness, good health and fortune. Wow, talk about changing overnight!

Why does TVB love having extremely good or extremely bad characters?
It seems she has accepted her mother’s death and placed all resentment behind her (after just 2 episodes). She is portrayed as goddess-like as Charmaine now @.@ Why does TVB love having extremely good or extremely bad characters? Oh well…I give up. I think we already established a few episodes back that due to odd inconsistencies, Selena is now a goodie-two-shoe full stop.  Not sure how writing out Buddhism scripture can really brainwash you, but it seems to work on her. Good things don’t go unnoticed and Moses finds a new love in Selena’s inner beauty and requests for her to be released. What do you guys think of Moses? Too gullible, or just a gentlemen who admires inner beauty? I mean, what if Selena faked it all? (I doubt it but the idea amuses me XD)

Selena and Moses on good terms again

Moses realises Selena’s inner beauty and change

Meanwhile, Charmaine is seen burning an incense for her mother by the well. Tavia soon arrives, knowing she would be here as the two of them used to always come here together on this day. She reminds her Krystal has told them they need to always look out for each other and not help outsiders against one another. Tavia thought Selena was released because Charmaine helped her say good words again. Charmaine denies helping her and explains Moses’s change of heart was all due to Selena’s change. This pisses off Tavia who believes Charmaine is constantly on Selena’s side. How does copying Buddhist scripts make Selena a good person, and her helping Yoyo make her a bad one? Charmaine stands firm on her beliefs that there is a difference between black and white. Before she walks off, she corrects Tavia, saying today is not even Krystal’s death day, but the next month. haha!! Charmaine saw through Tavia’s fakeness, who tried to use Krystal as a weapon against her. If Tavia can’t even remember Krystal’s death day, what’s to say she even took what Krystal has told her to heart:( Tavia becomes absolutely infuriated and glares at Charmaine as she walks away. Does anyone still root for Tavia here?

I hate Marcus and Angie…!! These episodes have a high focus on the affair between the two and it’s making me feel slightly sick.

Finding out Topman has a son, Yatming deliberately tells Marcus and uses Marcus to tell his sister the truth. After refusing to believe Marcus (or much rather in denial),  Rene proceeded with their engagement. However, Marcus went to the extreme of bringing the child to the engagement party, totally ruining everything- on such a important day to Rene. Yatming is so evil!!

Born Rich

Marcus’ behaviour on Rene and Topman’s engagement cruise was totally embarrassing >< ..he made a complete fool out of himself and ended it with a sulking “no one understands me ” jumping off the ship and swimming away. He then goes back to find Angie and continues finding his ‘comfort’. Angie changes her mind again and decides to fall back into the trap of being the third party in Marcus and Connie’s relationship. Marcus is really getting on my nerves!! Yes I know he is sick, but he should have just seen the doctor!

It’s such a shame that Topman and Rene’s relationshipjust ended like that. When they almost got back together, Elsa (Topman’s ex-girlfriend) had the accident, falling into a coma where Topman had to bare the responsibility to look after their son Billy during this time. I really feel sorry for Topman because it really wasn’t his fault. It’s unfortunate, just when Rene forgave him. Topman worked really hard for their relationship to work, but Rene could not be with him when he had to carry the burden of his son. Topman however, did not give up and assured Rene he will sort things out and solve the barrier to their relationship.

Episode 22 focuses heavily on Michelle and Susanna. Since Hor Wai is no longer around, it’s likely Susanna or Michelle will be the next successor. However, unlike past rivalry, the hatred has never been so intense when Michelle is tangled in another misunderstanding! Fueled by anger and grief, it seems true vengeance has only just begun.

The episode starts off with Susanna going to see Kwok Keung late one night. She wanted to give Yi Kei a few gifts to keep by her side as she is cremated. Kwok Keung bursts into tears over the death of his wife, and Susanna shows her condolences. This of course fuels rumors and gossips amongst the maids in the palace proceedings. What were they doing seeing each other so late? Will they get back together? Michelle overhears the gossip and disbands them, annoyed by the ridiculous rumor of her friend.

Michelle with Ram and Vin like a happy family

Michelle, Ram and Vin as a happy family

Michelle sees Ram and Vin (Ram’s adopted son) where Vin tells her Tavia has been complimenting Michelle in front of Mary. It is likely she is tipped to be the next Head of Proceedings. The three become very excited by the idea, acting out the scene where her dream comes true. She also hopes to be with Ram one day. Unfortunately, Michelle’s hope is shattered when she soon finds out Susanna was the chosen one instead, leaving her to delegate both the attire & jewelery department. Although slightly disappointed by the news, the two are still on good terms and Michelle even gives her a present. Susanna also took this opportunity to give her the jewelery box she made a while back. This is the first time, after a long time that they were able to sit down as friends and exchange presents :)

Susanna and Michelle exchange presents

Michelle gives a present to Susanna to congratulate her. Ram tells Michelle a dark secret…

Michelle asks her about Kwok Keung and whether there’s a chance they will get back together. Susanna hesitates and modestly says Kwok Keung is in love with his wife, and she doesn’t want to be involved since their relationship never developed. This leaves Michelle pondering and pitying her friend’s situation. She can tell just from the way she spoke about him, that she does still love him deeply, but is too afraid to admit it. She shares her thoughts with Ram who excitedly suggests it’s possible the two can still be together. Michelle is confused by his claim and he reveals he knows about a secret that could potentially give them a happy ending. He whispers the secret into Michelle’s ear, leaving her absolutely astonished!
